A Perfect Road Trip that almost wasn't:

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 4, 2009, 9:54 PM
So I got back tonight after a short road trip with some friends.

Myself, and 3 of my friends decided to head out into B.C., mostly because two of them had never driven into the mountains before (Silly I know!)

So we drove out Saturday morning, each of us in our own cars. Out through Banff where the the weather seemed like it was going to be just terrible. Especially since one of my friends who just got a brand new car, only had summer tires on (he has already started looking for winter tires, but it's his first car, so he's not sure what ones to get etc etc).

However, as soon as we got beyond Banff, the weather broke, the sun came out and everything was just perfect.

I've still got a ton of photos to go through, but I've already edited a few that really caught my eye. We went to just a few places to walk around. The trip was more about the drive, which is a really hard thing to capture in still shots (especially while driving myself!)

Made it to Johnson Caynon for my 4th time, out to Radium Hot springs (which wasn't quite what I was expecting) for the first time since I was very young, then up to Golden where we stayed the night. On the way home, "Natural Bridge", Emerald Lake. We tried to head back up to Takawaka falls again, but apparently after October 1st, they start rolling up the shutters and locking the doors to everything. Oh well. Always next year.

Look at this one: [link]

I've always dreamed to do that!

hah. I gotta disagree with the video though. An excavator is way easier to park, you can move sideways!

I can't remember if I sent you this video or not. [link]

Just crushing the pipe so it can be hauled away in one load instead of many ;)

Must be fun. Did you make it or you were the camera man?
I'm so unhappy because of the fact that here in Bulgaria the construction companies are very small. It's impossible to see such giants. I dream to drive such a thing. In my city it's rare even for a 45 ton excavator to be seen. The largest I've personally operated is a 34,5 ton. It's a shame. I want bigger machines: 600, 800...
Well still there are big machines. A new project started in Varna and the day before yesterday I saw two Bauer BG 28, which both of them had an operating weight of 110 ton! ( drilling rigs) I'll make some photos later. The truck that carried them was 38 m long Man! The police had to stop the traffic for it. Massive! And the noise that the engines make! I love it. When the machine starts to shake to separate the dirt from the drill and all the alarms of the parked cars around start beeping!
Cool!

I was the camera man. I was running the job, so the only equipment I was running was the small PC-138, because we didn't have any other operators around.

Even our "big" stuff is tiny compared to the equipment up north. In the oilsands projects, they have things like the Hatachi EX5500 [link]

Have you operated such big things? I mostly like the excavators from 45-100 ton. Not that EX 5500 is not good or something but I think mining machines look too rough and brutal... Anyway, what I mean that i would try it with pleasure. But only try it just to see how it feels. But for a long period I would love to operate Komatsu pc 800
for example, cat 385 or Liebherr 974.
I've read somewhere that in Canada work the world's largest hydraulic excavators - Terex RH 400... 980ton, 50cu. m. bucket... More data here: [link]
Besides, a year ago Hyundai revealed their new 80 toner. So I finally found the die cast model in ebey.com, but I'm not sure it can be delivered to Bulgaria:-( See how it looks:
